Support World Vitiligo Day Initiative – June 25th

There is not more a fitting day than June 25th as it honors a man who suffered quietly with it while the media reported he hated being black. We can only imagine the amount of dogged determination this man had to rise above the bias and hate he faced, while struggling with the emotional drain this disease has on ones soul. Michael Jackson dealt with this disease privately, never asked for sympathy and was never treated fairly by the press and this acknowledgement will lead to more awareness of this man and other untruths that the media have perpetuated about this loving individual.

Watch this Edited video of Oprah/MJ interview

Especially listen to Michael’s pain  :20 – :31 at being misunderstood.

Oprah: ….. Are you bleaching your skin? Is your skin lighter because you don’t like being black?

Michael: Ok, Number One this is the situation, I have a skin disorder that that destroys the pigmentation of the skin, it is something I can not help.

Okay, but when people make up stories that I don’t wanna be who I am, it hurts me.

Update: Dr. Patrick Treacy’s video “Under African Skies” demonstrate  how the media mischaracterized Michael as a black man wanting to be white so the world did not know the truth.

an.

  3. Media ignored the Vitiligo factor when Michael Jackson finally clarified to Oprah in 1993 why his skintone had become lighter. For years the media speculated that he didn’t like his race and was bleaching his skin. Even after that interview they always ignored the vitiligo factor and continued to present this mischaracterization of a black man hating his own race. When in fact he was dealing with increased patches and no desire to share that with the public.

Why should he? HIs medical condition was nobody’s business but his own. He should not have been required to talk about it to anyone unless he wished. It is evident he went to great lengths to keep it a secret and most probably the reason why he had only one make-up artist signed to DNA so that it could be kept underwraps, until he wanted it revealed.

Just like Jack Johnson and other black luminaries once Michael got too big and popular the media began the assaults on his physical being and his character to turn the public perception into him being some sort of “freak” or “weirdo”. The used the element of skintone as part of their campaign against hm. In the UK they even coined the phrase wacko jacko, which he detested, for this same effect.

We are extremely proud of this Winnie Harlow, competing in America’s Next Top Model. She has demonstrated a fortitude to show this condition and educate people to the effects it can have on the mind and spirit of a person who must live with it as a daily reality. Perhaps society can understand and be more accepting of someone dealing with it, whether they wish to cover it up or whether they wish to reveal it.

I absolutely agree 100% and offer my support with June 25th for World Vitiligo Day. Michael suffered so much pain and anguish over something he had absolutely no control over and the media and tabloids took total advantage of this and just kept printing and telling lies about Michael no matter how much it hurt him! This world was beyond cruel to Michael and I feel this same way about why he should have to disclose any information regarding his medical status??? This was a total invasion of his privacy and nobody’s business!
